Help! I Don’t Know What to Name my Novel

Help

For those of you who clicked through to this blog post hopeful of finding tips, advice and inspiration on coming up with the perfect name for your novel I am sorry to disappoint you. I really need help as I’m being completely indecisive about what to call my debut novel. The working title is currently Love Confessions but it doesn’t seem to quite fit. So have a read of the book blurb and let me know in the comments what title you would give it. Thanking you.

Can men and women really be just friends? Can high school sweethearts really last? Can couples survive long distance?

Love Confessions follows three women each at a crossroads in their ever enduring quest to find and keep love.

Amber is seemingly happy with her single life and enjoys nothing more than organising the social calendars of her closest friends. But on her 25th birthday Amber starts to experience a quarter life crisis and questions why she can’t find a boyfriend and whether the man of her dreams might actually be right in front of her.

Leonora is an Italian beauty with a seemingly perfect life. Adoring husband, quaint little house her parents and in-laws practically paid for and a perfectly respectful job as a financial advisor. But Leonora harbours a secret desire to break free from the shackles of marriage and the increasing pressures from family to procreate her first baby already. After all, nobody is meant to marry their high school sweetheart are they?

Sarah is the quintessential image of a good girl. She studies hard in high school, even harder at university, and now works back late most nights at work. But all of Sarah’s hard work is perfectly balanced by her live in mucho boyfriend to break up the work with play. But when Steve moves to the city for work creating a long distance relationship, the once fun part of her life becomes more work than anything else Sarah has ever done.

Love Confessions explores the dynamics of relationships, friendships and family.

  1. I’m no expert but “Love Confessions” might suggest the book is a bit racy (or perhaps it is?). I know how difficult it is to think of titles and I always tell myself I will come up with something better than my ‘working title’ when I have finished writing – but I never do!
How about “Looking for Love” or “Crossroads of Love” – bit too cheesy perhaps?
Anyway, look forward to reading it, your blurb sounds good.

  2. I’m not an expert by any stretch, and not knowing the “heat” or quirkiness or stylistic elements of the stories, it’s a bit more difficult to come up with something fitting, but I will suggest the following:
IT MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND
    HEAD OVER HEELS
THE COURSE OF LOVE NEVER DID RUN SMOOTH
    SEALED WITH A KISS
    LABOR OF LOVE
    PROMISE ME…
    SMITTEN
    MATCHES MADE IN HEAVEN
    LOVE BLIND
    THOSE THREE LITTLE WORDS
    FALLING FOR MR RIGHT
    ONE AND ONLY
Of course some of these are long and others are short…but maybe they will give you some ideas to work with until you find something just right. Good luck!

  3. Confessions of the Heart could be a better title if you wanted to keep confession as the central theme. Or if you wanted to be a little bit grandiose you could have something like ‘Kiss and Tell: The story of wanting to Love and be Loved in return.’
